Work Beginning on New National Standard of Canada for Flammability and Labelling Requirements for Tents

Ottawa, February 11, 2014 - Public Works and Government Services Canada's Canadian General Standards Board (CGSB) announces today the beginning work on a new National Standard of Canada CAN/CGSB-182.1, Flammability and labelling requirements for tents.

This National Standard of Canada will apply to flammability and labelling requirements for tents that are subject to the Hazardous Products (Tents) Regulations under the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act. This standard will define terms and establish performance requirements and test methods for the evaluation of tents. This standard will specify requirements for safety warnings and safe use instructions of tents.

CGSB will administer the standards development process using a balanced technical committee to arrive at a voluntary consensus standard that can become a National Standard of Canada.

This advisory is to notify the public and key stakeholders the work is commencing.

A draft of the standard will be made available for public review and comment in 2014 through the normal standards development process.
