Standard product classifications
The North American Product Classification System (NAPCS) is being developed to cover both goods and services and will become the standard classification in 2007. A number of survey programs have already implemented parts of the classification, especially for services where there is no existing standard classification.
The current classifications for goods in use at Statistics Canada are the Standard Classification of Goods (SCG) 2001, the Standard Classification of Transportable Goods (SCTG) 1996, and the Annual Survey of Manufactures (ASM) List of Goods (selected goods classes from NAPCS).
