The 2006 Conference of the International Association for Official Statistics (IAOS) will be hosted by Statistics Canada in Ottawa, September 6 to 8, 2006.

The principal theme of the Conference will be People on the Move: Measuring Environmental, Social and Economic Impacts Within and Between Nations.

Several scientific sessions are being organized by experts from around the globe, all under three main categories:

  • The Statistical Infrastructure Needed to Understand Sub-national Population Changes
  • Economies Without Borders
  • Communities that Cross National Boundaries

Among the hundreds of delegates expecte d to attend are the heads of statistical organizations from around the world, as well as senior officials from central banks and from international bodies such as the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, the United Nations, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

Two exceptional Keynote speakers have been secured for the event:

  • Dr. Gro Harlem Brundtland, Director-General Emeritus of the World Health Organization and former Prime Minister of Norway
  • Mr. Don Johnston, retiring Secretary General of the OECD.

Please be advised that this is an IAOS Conference, and as such, the number of registrations allocated to Statistics Canada is limited. The allocation process will be determined by the individual fields.
