Client Service Enhancement Project

In 2006, the Client Service Enhancement Project began a series of consultations with various stakeholders across Canada about the policing services we provide. These stakeholders included provinces, territories, municipalities and First Nations as well as groups such as the Contract Advisory Committee and Public Safety Canada.

During the two-year project, communities:

  • provided positive feedback about RCMP frontline services.
  • acknowledged that policing is becoming more complex and more time is being spent on investigation and enforcement.
  • indicated they wanted an opportunity for more police visibility and a greater focus on prevention programs.

As a result of those discussions, pilot projects for one new civilian role and two new peace officer roles have been launched in various communities across Canada to support the work of the RCMP and improve public safety.

These three enhanced service delivery options new roles will:

  • enhance, not replace, existing RCMP core resources.
  • draw from the unique skill sets of community members.
  • solidify the relationship between the RCMP and the communities we serve.
  • help the RCMP better meet community and client needs and expectations.

Pending the results of formal evaluations of the pilot projects, these options may be available to other communities across Canada.
