Incident Management Intervention Model (IMIM)

  • Over its history, the RCMP has provided extensive training for situations in which the use of force must be contemplated.
  • The RCMP’s Incident Management Intervention Model (IMIM) outlines specific steps in handling potentially violent situations. RCMP members are thoroughly trained in its application, and know that preference is always weighted toward the least intrusive approach possible in handling an incident.
  • RCMP members are also guided by the CAPRA problem solving model which, in addition to the IMIM, is introduced and continually applied during the 24-week Cadet Training Program and serves as an ongoing reference for all members throughout their service. When considering a problem, users identify:
    • clients
    • acquire and Analyze information,
    • examine partnerships,
    • determine a response and
    • asess the result following implementation.
