Did you know Veterans Affairs Canada provides services to RCMP Clients?

Serving and former regular and civilian RCMP members may be eligible to receive a wide range of services. VAC services which you may be eligible for can be different for serving and retirees and for some serving Civilian Members who suffer a duty related injury.  Some of the possible benefits include: Disability Pensions, Health Benefits and Services and may also include access to Operational Stress Injury Clinics (OSI).

In addition to disability pensions and health treatment benefits, released regular and civilian members may receive one or all of the following services: counseling, case management, screening, referral, information, advocacy support, assistance in accessing programs from Veterans Affairs or other community agencies.

The RCMP has had a long standing relationship with VAC.  Since 1947, VAC has provided pension adjudications for regular and civilian members with permanent duty-related disabilities. Since 1999, the Force's health benefits have been processed through VAC's contract with Medavie Blue Cross.

Disability Pension

You may be eligible for disability pension benefits from VAC if you now have, or later develop, a permanent disability resulting from an injury or disease that:

  • arose out of, was directly connected with, or aggravated by RCMP service; or
  • was attributable to, incurred during, or aggravated by service in a Special Duty Area (SDA) or Special Duty Operation (SDO).

If you experience, or have experienced, an injury or illness during your RCMP service, be sure to have it documented by your own medical personnel and request a copy for your own files.  This event should also be recorded by completion of form 3414 (accident report), your records should also include recording witnesses and other appropriate records with both your family and RCMP medical files.  That record could be very important if your injury or illness results in a permanent disability.

Please consult or call VAC to find out if you qualify for benefits. When you call, you will need the following information:

  • Regimental number
  • Serving/Retired status
  • If you are already a client include your VAC case file number
