Led by the RCMP, in partnership with Canadian police services and federal Public Safety agencies, the National Integrated Interagency Information (N-III) System provides program elements and technology tools to establish a foundation for information sharing across the Canadian Public Safety and Security sector.
N-III is leading the way to interoperability by responding to the need for technology solutions that facilitate communications and enhance investigations to prevent and fight crime.
The N-III solution is a national police information environment built on a foundation of existing tools and protocols. Fully implemented, N-III will enable police services and Public Safety agencies to search an index of participating agencies’ records management systems simultaneously to obtain occurrence information. This will help to:
PIP is the information sharing tool used by Canadian police services. PIP is a national index of occurrences, which can enhance police investigations by providing leads or supplementary information. A single query searches an index participating agencies’ published information and returns consolidated responses. PIP users can access more detailed information by using the drill down feature or requesting a report from the originating police service. Each police service determines what information they will publish to PIP.
IQT is the information query tool for Public Safety agencies. Currently, participating Public Safety agencies access an index of summary RCMP occurrence data. Soon they will be able to access all PIP index data. These consolidated results enable the participating agencies to identify potentially relevant occurrences.
One of the key features of IQT are the governance based access controls (GBAC). GBAC filters the police information so that participating Public Safety agencies view only the type of information for which they have a legislative mandate and lawful authority to access.
