Representing our members, the CGA acts as a liaison with governments in setting guidelines for the sale and marketing of diamonds, coloured stones and pearls, and helps to establish guidelines for gem and jewellery appraising in Canada.
The CGA is a non-profit, educational institute, which provides a forum for Canadian gemmologists to meet and share experiences and knowledge about the fabulous world of gemstones. Anyone who has a sincere interest in gemstones is invited to join. Monthly meetings provide a framework for social and professional interaction, and are held in Toronto at the CGA premises, 1767 Avenue Road, the third Wednesday of most months at 8:00 p.m. Members have access to the library of gemmology-related books and journals. Books and small gem-testing instruments are sold at the CGA office.
Our association is affiliated with the Gemmological Association and Gem Testing Laboratory of Great Britain.

The Canadian Gemmological Association is proud to announce the completion of The Canadian Gemmologist Index for the first 20 volumes (1976 to 1999). It has been 24 years since the first issue of The Canadian Gemmologist, the official journal of the Canadian Gemmological Association, was published (Spring, 1976). Since then, an annual index of authors and subjects has been published in the last issue of each volume (Winter). Until now, those without a specific reference who wished to find information published in The Canadian Gemmologist had to look at the Winter issue for each year.
This Index brings us in line with other well-respected professional publications such as Gems & Gemology and the Mineralogical Record, which have produced multi-year indices. The Canadian Gemmologist contains a wealth of information on many gemmological topics. The Index will convert the significant information contained in the journal into a valuable reference tool and a convenient resource for researchers.
Members of the Canadian Gemmological Association have received one free copy as a special membership benefit in celebration of the completion of 20 volumes of The Canadian Gemmologist, and to mark the year 2000.
Copies are now available for sale to subscribers, libraries, institutions and others. The price in Canada is $10.00; outside Canada, $10 in U.S. funds. Please order from the CGA office.
The Canadian Gemmological Association,
