Lullaby

by J. Mark Smith

Into uncuth worlde
XXXIcommen so ertow.

Cry little child, infant tears
XXXYour full heart can't know.

Eucalyptus fans the moon
XXXAnd whispers to and fro.

Sweetly begin, without a word,
XXXArms and legs awry,

Moan and move, light with hope
XXXThat might better have died.

Eucalyptus fans the moon
XXXAnd whispers to and fro.

Cry little child, cry the tears
XXXYour full heart can't know.

J.Mark Smith: My poems and essays have been published recently in "The Santa Monica Review", "Gulf Coast", and "Fiddlehead". I live in Toronto, after eight years in California.
