interview with james hörner

- when did the guide start?
while i was unemployed. three years ago. it seemed like an interesting project to tackle.

- why does it exist?
there wasn't anything like it online, so i figured i may as well do it. there were too many great authors who were not well represented online.

- who is the audience?
i figured it would be useful for people overseas, or in areas where they wouldn't necessarily have the resources available. of course the internet has improved somewhat since then, and now it is much easier to find this kind of info out.

- how does it work? who maintains it? where does the info come from?
i mostly rely on submissions from authors now, although the information originally came from a wide variety of sources. it started by my looking rifling through our book collection, as well as several resources at the local university. it is maintained by both iram and i. she contributed significantly to the children's lit portion.

- what has the response been like?
i get a lot of stupid questions from canlit students - people hoping i'll do their research for them. other than that, i've had the chance to help put up info for a lot of really appreciative authors.

This interview was conducted in July 2001.
