Raspberry Rules

I pick at five
in the afternoon
greener thumbs drive by
bemused
they pick mornings
finish at eight
fruit frozen by nine

No... five's the hour
berries ripe and shameless
whole day's heat
caught
between prickly thighs
bees and birds drawn away
to other pleasures
while I have come
to mine.
