reading the bukowski/purdy letters

couple of hard drinking men promising
to tell each other when they start
losing their edge their
ability to cuss
stroking each other through
depression and rancour
each arrogant and of course
rightly so

i sit reading on a blanket
in my back yard
wondering if my forty year old
perennial garden
keeps me too genteel
to be
poetic
