Why

I walk along the pavement
taking in the crisp autumn air
on the way home from school.

Then all of a sudden
the serenity about me
suddenly shatters,
like a porcelain vase
smashed on the floor

Four boys ride by
on their mud-covered bicycles,
spitting and screaming insults
as they wiz by.

Chink bitch they yell,
their voices like knives
pearcing my heart so it bleeds inside.

I turn away
hiding my tears,
behind the daggers in my eyes.
