The Stroll of Poets Society is a registered non-profit corporation. It was founded in 1991, following the first Stroll of Poets festival. Our goal is to raise the stature of poetry in the community. We stage three major poetry events in Edmonton each year - the Stroll of Poets Festival the first Sunday of October, the 12 Days of Poetry in December and January, and a reading series each spring. We organize readings and workshops from time to time, and publish a paper anthology of members' poetry. This home page is an extension of our goals.
On Stroll of Poets day, this year Sunday October 5, more than one hundred of us give readings throughout the afternoon, in the cafés and book stores along Whyte Avenue in the Old Strathcona part of Edmonton.
The Twelve Days of Poetry is held during the Holiday Season, at restaurants and bistros around Edmonton. Each poet submits a poem for inclusion in the Stroll Anthology we publish each year. From all the poems submitted for the Anthology, forty four poets are selected by a jury. Four poets read on each of the first eleven nights. A popular vote is taken at each reading. The winners read at the 12th Night - which is also a big party - food and music and dancing, as well as poetry reading.
This is who we are and what we do. We are poets from all walks of life, some of us still in high school, some of us long retired, some with many books and publications, others with only what you see here.
