For the Drum
Sagkeeng First Nation-The Sagkeeng Health Authority is once again
under the spotlight as parties are now alleging that at least
$300,000 is missing from their budget with some estimates running
as high as $800,000.
The Drum has learned that information provided to the RCMP has
resulted in the Commercial Crimes section reviewing the matter.
According to RCMP spokesman Sgt. Steve Saunders a formal investigation
by the RCMP has not been initiated but the allegations are "under
review."
Sagkeeng Health Authority Director Bert Fontaine refused specific
comment on the matter noting he couldn't comment other than to
say he was waiting to hear from the RCMP to see what if any charges
would be laid.
A Health Canada official admitted they are aware the matter is
under investigation but insist the department had no information
to offer on the issue or on when The Sagkeeng Health Authority
is subject to an audit.
