DEPUTY CHIEF OF POLICE
NISHNAWBE-ASKI POLICE SERVICE
The Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service (NAPS) is a stand alone First Nation Police Service for the Nishnawbe-Aski Nation. The primary goal of NAPS is to provide effective, efficient and culturally appropriate policing to its people in the Nishnawbe-Aski Nation. NAPS will employ a total complement of 198 officers and support personnel.
Duties
- Reporting to the Chief of Police the D/Chief of Police will be responsible for managing the operational matters of the Police Service in accordance with the objectives, priorities and policies established by the Board;
- ensuring that members of the Police Service carry out their duties in a manner that reflects the needs of the community;
- ensuring that the Police Service is appropriate to the culture and traditions of the communities;
- ensuring that the Police Service provides community based preventative Police Services;
- ensuring that discipline is maintained in the Police Service;
- perform such other duties as the Board may assign from time to time;
- conduct evaluations of senior personnel;
Qualifications
- extensive supervisory experience in police operations, field operations and management of policing programs;
- experience in First Nation Community Policing;
- experience in Community Based Policing Concepts.
Desirable Qualifications
- completion of Executive Development course from the Canadian Police College or equivalent;
- a knowledge of the English language is essential for this position;
- sensitivity to and the ability to communicate is one of the Nishnawbe-Aski Nation languages would be an asset.
