Qualifications:
Are you a person who has a common sense approach, can make appropriate decisions
using sound judgement and is able to communicate effectively on an interpersonal
level? Manitoba Corrections is seeking individuals who are dedicated, optimistic,
committed to teamwork and constant learning, and have a genuine concern to help
others.
The job can be physically and emotionally challenging. It includes shifts and various hours of work - including scheduled or short notice call ins. You must be flexible, able to handle stress and solve problems. Case management and group programs will involve direct contact with inmates and their rehabilitation process. Knowledge of Aboriginal culture and spirituality is an asset. First Aid and CPR certificates are required and must be maintained. A medical fitness report and a Full Class 5 Driver's License (F5) is required. Certain Centres will require a Class 4 Driver's License. Criminal Records Check and Child Abuse Registry Check will be conducted, however the existence of a Criminal Record may not exclude candidates.
All candidates attend a series of tests to assess suitability, judgement and problem solving as part of the screening/selection process. Interviews will be provided to candidates based on test results and a review of resumes/applications. Please note that eligible applicants who have attended previous testing sessions may re-apply. Our full time unpaid training program is ten weeks in duration (Monday to Friday) and scheduled to begin fall of 2003 in Winnipeg. Following successful completion of the program, you will be hired as a part time term Correctional Officer/Juvenile Counsellor.
As training openings are limited we may also establish a list of candidates eligible for future opportunities.
Please Note: Dependent on level of interest, a local training program may be considered in The Pas.
We thank all who apply and advise that only those selected for further consideration
will
be contacted.
