Health Education Access Program Instructor
Term Position: August 2003 to June 2004, Norway House, Manitoba
Through leadership and innovation, Keewatin Community College The Position: Keewatin Community College invites applications from creative and committed post-secondary educators to teach in the Health Education Access Program, an innovative community-based program designed to help prepare students from remote communities to make a successful transition to post-secondary institutions. In addition to teaching duties, the instructor will be responsible for related duties including classroom management, student supervision, guided study, maintenance of student records and grades and other administrative tasks. Qualifications: The successful candidate will have a desire to work with and learn from Aboriginal students and communities. They will have a Masters Degree and be able to teach introductory-level university and college courses in one or more subject areas. They must have significant academic background in the life sciences, and should be able to teach a basic mathematics course. They will have a solid base of knowledge in, as well as personal experience of, Aboriginal culture and traditions. They will have demonstrated creative and culturally relevant instructional practices with adult and Aboriginal learners, particularly in the areas of mentorship, skill development and cultural awareness. Candidates will also have experience in program/curriculum development and knowledge of post-secondary education concepts, systems and educational requirements. Good communication skills (both oral and written) are required. The ability to speak a First Nations language will be an asset. Employment equity is a factor in the selection process.
