OLIVES

We ate the dark purple olives

by lamplight, sitting out

in the night under a full golden moon,

and the mountains. Moonlight

was everywhere, touching

the fields and the trees.

We ate the meat

of those olives, heaps

of them, talking

and laughing, and gleefully

threw the pits

anywhere the light fell.
