SEVEN POEMS FOR IT’S STILL WINTER

DISCOVERY

I want to look at the world
from the angle
of Columbus discovering America,
and I don’t really care
if Hispaniola isn’t Cathay.
It seems to me
that what really matters
is getting excited about the voyage,
and making your way by the stars,
and having three ships.
