USCG Searches for Cruise Ship Passenger off Bahamas

Miami December 11, 2005 - Coast Guard rescue crews have been searching since Saturday afternoon for a 59-year-old-Canadian woman who possibly fell overboard yesterday morning from the cruise ship Jewel of the Sea off Nassau, Bahamas.

A Coast Guard C-130 aircraft from Clearwater searched most of today for the Canadian citizen. The crew of an HH-60 Coast Guard helicopter searched yesterday after a missing persons report was given to the Coast Guard around 2 p.m. by the cruise ship crew.

Jill Begora, was last seen on the vessel about 9:30 a.m. yesterday. Begora was reported missing to the ships crew about 1 p.m. by her husband. The crew of the Jewel of the Sea conducted a full ship search for the woman before notifying the Coast Guard.

The ship moored in Nassau yesterday at 11:26 a.m. and review of the ship's records provided no evidence Begora had departed the vessel while in port.

Before arriving at Port Everglades in Fort. Lauderdale, Fla., the ship retraced its course around Nassau, and then arrived at Port Everglades later today. No Coast Guard inspection team visited the ship while moored in Fort Lauderdale.
