Star Cruises Decides for RESCO

Sydney November 8, 2006 - Rescompany strikes another big success in the Asia/Pacific region: Star Cruises, the third largest cruise operator in the world, will implement RESCO for VIP-reservations in Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and Hong Kong. "We are more than happy about this new, challenging contract as three highly sophisticated interfaces will embed RESCO into the existing Star Cruises infrastructure," says Thomas Pfitzer, Managing Director of Rescompany Systems Lt. "These interfaces will grab data from various sources and make them available in the RESCO-CRM and for reservations. Reservation confirmations will be sent instantly by SMS at the completion of every booking."

Rescompany Systems provides reservation and CRM software solutions to the travel and leisure industry. The RESCO software suite is built to support cruises, tours, charters, individual excursions, wholesalers, holiday villages and package groups using sophisticated inventory management and dynamic pricing. RESCO also offers the customer multi language functionality including Chinese, Russian, English, German, French and Spanish – other languages are available on request.

Compared to other reservation systems, RESCO has tight integration between the customer database and the actual booking which allows the customers to gather and use data very efficiently. The built-in Marketing and Mailing Module enables the user to quickly create targeted mailing selections from the customer database without the need of secondary systems. RESCO Reservation and CRM are offered as one complete solution or as separate packages. For the stand-alone CRM package sophisticated interfaces are provided to existing systems to allow the best possible use of the available data.

Carnival Cruise Lines to Operate San Diego's First Year-Round Cruise Program

Miami November 2, 2006 - Carnival Cruise Lines, the world’s largest cruise operator, will launch San Diego’s first year-round cruise schedule with four- and five-day Baja Mexico voyages aboard the 2,052-passenger "Fun Ship" Elation beginning in June 2007.

On this program – the only one of its kind from Southern California – the Elation will depart Thursdays on four-day cruises to Cabo San Lucas and on Mondays and Saturdays on five-day cruises to Cabo San Lucas and Ensenada, on a rotating schedule.

Short cruises are the fastest growing segment of the cruise industry and Carnival pioneered the four- and five-day schedule, which fits in perfectly with today’s busy lifestyles. Four-day cruises operating Thursday to Monday provide the ideal "long weekend getaway" while five-day voyages offer a comprehensive, multi-port cruise experience all in less than a week’s time.

The Elation will offer 78 voyages annually from San Diego and join the 2,124-passenger Carnival Spirit, which has operated seasonal eight-day Mexican Riviera voyages from San Diego since 2004.

With the Elation and Carnival Spirit, Carnival is expected to carry more than 230,000 passengers annually from San Diego – the most of any cruise operator.

Additionally, with the deployment of the Elation, Carnival will be the largest cruise operator on the West Coast and the only cruise line to base three ships year-round in Southern California, with the Paradise and Carnival Pride offering year-round three- to seven-day voyages from Long Beach, Calif.

"The Elation’s new four- and five-day cruises from San Diego add a whole new dimension to West Coast cruising. Not only is the port within a day’s drive of millions of residents within the western U.S., San Diego offers a variety of convenient air options with the airport just minutes away from the cruise terminal," said Bob Dickinson, Carnival president and CEO.

"The addition of year-round home-ported cruise service really puts San Diego on the cruising map," said Robert "Rocky" Spane, chairman of the board of port commissioners. "This decision by Carnival Cruise lines is great for Carnival’s business and great for the region’s economic progress."

New Four- and Five-Day Cruises from San Diego

Beginning June 2, 2007, the 70,000-ton Elation will launch the first year-round cruise program from San Diego encompassing four- and five-day cruises to ports in Baja Mexico.

Four-day cruises feature Cabo San Lucas, one of Mexico’s most popular seaside destinations highlighted by its distinctive rock formations, lush landscape and aqua-blue waters popular with snorkelers and scuba divers the world over. Five-day cruises add a stop in Ensenada, located along Mexico’s Baja Peninsula and offering gorgeous beaches, a waterfront promenade, and its most famous attraction, the "La Bufadora" geyser.

Prior to the start-up of this program, the Elation will operate a special six-day Mexico cruise departing San Diego May 27, 2007. Featured ports on this one-time voyage include Cabo San Lucas, La Paz and Ensenada, each offering magnificent white-sand beaches, diverse cultures, and interesting sites and historical attractions.

Special 15-Day Panama Canal Cruise

The Elation will also sail on a special 15-day Panama Canal cruise departing Port Canaveral, Fla., May 12 and arriving San Diego May 27, 2007. It will mark Carnival’s first Panama Canal cruise since 2004.

In addition to the unforgettable transit of the Panama Canal, the Elation will visit the Caribbean Island of Aruba followed by calls at Puntarenas, Costa Rica; and Acapulco, Mazatlan and Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Numerous shore excursion opportunities, including watersports such as kayaking, snorkeling and scuba diving, as well as myriad golfing and Eco-tourism opportunities will be available during this voyage.

The Elation, which currently operates four- and five-day cruises from Port Canaveral, will continue that program through May 12, 2007, then embark on its Panama Canal cruise.

Signature ‘Fun Ship’ Amenities

The 855-foot-long Elation houses a 12,000-square-foot health club, 12 lounges and bars, a jogging track, an Internet café and ship-wide wi-fi access, cell phone service, on-board duty-free shopping, a comprehensive golf program, three swimming pools, and Carnival’s signature "Twister Waterslide."

"Camp Carnival" and "Club O2," offering expansive facilities and supervised activities for children and teens, respectively, are featured, as well.

Three restaurants, including two elegant main dining rooms with extensive menus and wine lists and a 700-seat poolside eatery featuring 24-hour pizza and self-serve ice cream/frozen yogurt are also featured. A patisserie and complimentary 24-hour stateroom service are also available.

The Elation also houses a wide selection of spacious staterooms and suites, all of which feature the new "Carnival Comfort Bed" sleep system featuring plush mattresses, luxurious duvets, and high quality linens and pillows.

Pricing and Reservations

Carnival will be accepting reservations for Elation’s Panama Canal cruise on Friday, Nov. 3, 2006. Reservations will be accepted for the ship’s year-round four- and five-day cruises from San Diego beginning Monday, Nov. 6, 2006.

Prices for the Elation’s new four- and five-day cruises from San Diego begin at $339 per person. Rates for the ship’s special six-day voyage departing May 27, 2007, from San Diego start at $599 per person, based on double occupancy.

The 15-day Panama Canal cruise is available starting at $799 per person. Special rates for third and fourth guests sailing in the same stateroom, along with round-trip air supplements from a variety of North American gateways, are also available.

Carnival's Fun Ship Cruises - The Ideal Holiday Getaway

Miami November 2, 2006 - Getting away together as a family during the holidays and eschewing the pressures of entertaining at home is fast becoming a major trend among consumers with cruise vacations an extremely popular choice for these family holiday getaways.

Carnival, the world's largest cruise line, will operate all 21 of its "Fun Ships" on holiday cruises this year, offering a variety of three- to eight-day voyages to the Bahamas, Caribbean and Mexico departing from 11 North American homeports.

"Our ‘Fun Ship’ holiday cruises – with elaborate decorations, fun-filled activities and traditional entertainment and cuisine – offer a convenient, affordable and hassle-free alternative for families to reconnect and spend some quality time together during this festive season. Many families, in fact, have made ‘Fun Ship’ cruising part of their holiday tradition," said Bob Dickinson, Carnival president and CEO.

A holiday mood is set the minute guests step on board, as the ships’ atrium and promenade areas are adorned with colorful Christmas trees, garland, wreaths and mistletoe, along with signage proclaiming traditional holiday greetings.

The spirit of the season continues with an elaborate holiday-themed revue with sets that evoke a "home away from home" atmosphere complete with a faux oversized fireplace, large comfortable sofas and a Christmas tree with decorations created by the kids from the "Camp Carnival" program.

Kids also have an opportunity to showcase their artistic talents, performing a dance routine with the ships’ entertainers. Santa Claus, of course, also makes an appearance, bringing along a sack full of toys which are distributed to all children on board. A parade of crewmembers representing dozens of different nationalities on board closes the popular show.

One of the great aspects of spending the holidays at sea is the bountiful array of delicious food – and no cooking! Holiday menus include the traditional oven roasted turkey with all the trimmings and freshly baked pecan pie, among many other selections.

With music such an important part of the season, traditional holiday selections are available within Carnival’s in-stateroom music system and incorporated into the live entertainment presented by the cruise director and entertainment staff. Caroling is also popular with guests and crew strolling throughout the ship singing classic and contemporary holiday songs.

Other featured events include readings of traditional holiday stories such as "Twas the Night Before Christmas" by the ship’s staff, while popular holiday-themed movies such as "The Polar Express" are shown on the in-cabin televisions.

Carnival’s "Fun Ships" are known for their festive shipboard ambiance and the line’s New Year’s cruises offer one of the biggest celebrations at sea. Highlighting the festivities is the traditional countdown by hundreds of "Fun Ship" revelers who enjoy complimentary noisemakers, party favors and champagne for ringing in the New Year.

In addition to providing a lifetime of memories, "Fun Ship" cruising during the holidays is one of the most affordable vacations around.

For example, for just $499 per person, consumers can sail on a four-day Bahamas cruise aboard the 2,052-passenger Sensation from Port Canaveral, Fla., a five-day Caribbean cruise aboard the 2,056-passenger Fantasy from New Orleans, or a five-day Key West/Nassau cruise aboard the 1,486-passenger Celebration from Jacksonville, Fla.

For those looking for a longer-length departure, seven-day Caribbean cruises from San Juan aboard the 2,642-passenger Carnival Destiny or from Miami aboard the 2,758-passenger Carnival Victory are available starting at $749 per person, while seven-day Caribbean voyages from Tampa aboard the 2,124-passenger Carnival Miracle or from Miami aboard the 2,974-passenger Carnival Valor are available for just $799 per person. Prices are based on double occupancy for an interior (category 4A) stateroom and are subject to change without notice.

The line has an option for a second Signature Class vessel, which would be delivered in spring 2010.

Independent Review of BC Ferries’ Safety Practices due in late December

Victoria BC November 10, 2006 - Former Auditor General George Morfitt is conducting a comprehensive, independent review of all BC Ferries’ safety practices. The review was commissioned in July 2006 by BC Ferries’ President and CEO David L. Hahn to ensure the company continues to operate one of the safest ferry systems in the world. The Morfitt safety review is on schedule and is due to be released publicly by the end of December.

"It is unfortunate that some parties continue to attempt to discredit BC Ferries’ safety management practices without all the facts," stated Hahn. "We have a very comprehensive Safety Management System (SMS) that is administered by our professional and well-trained employees. When you operate in excess of 182,000 sailings a year, there are going to be safety matters that need to be addressed. That is why we closely monitor, track and take corrective action via our SMS Operations Safety Log. It is all part of our due diligence to ensure safety comes first in all of our operations."

The Operations Safety Log is an integral part of BC Ferries’ SMS system. It serves as a central database so that shipboard and shore based management can proactively deal with issues relating to the operations of BC Ferries’ 34 vessels and 47 terminals.

The active management of a safety log is common practice in the marine transportation business and is a cornerstone of a continuously improving safety management system. The log is published monthly so that items can be removed once they have been addressed and others added as they are identified by the company’s internal SMS auditors, external auditors or inspectors, such as WCB, Transport Canada, Health Canada and Lloyd’s Registry.

Mr. Morfitt and his team have been conducting interviews with numerous internal and external parties including management, employees, regulators and the BC Ferries and Marine Workers’ Union. The review team has access to all of BC Ferries’ operations, including all Operational Safety Logs and external and internal audits.

"Everyone needs to await the results of this important and comprehensive safety review," said Mr. Hahn. "I have indicated that I am prepared to make whatever changes are recommended by Mr. Morfitt and his team. Our commitment to the safety of our customers and employees is paramount."
