Telework International Electronic-Newsletter

Three years ago KLR Consulting Inc. started to publish Telework International. In this period of time we have distributed many issues and gained a strong following from a core group of subscribers. The challenge from day one has been providing high quality, objective information at a cost which would be acceptable to the largest number of potential subscribers. We also combined these objectives with the strategy of not including advertisements. In retrospect this has been a tall order. The marketing efforts of the publication have been significant, the feedback on our publication has been excellent but the price of a subscription (even after we lowered it by 33%) has been our most significant challenge during a period where the price of producing paper-based publications has increased.

Like all organizations today, it became time for Telework International to reengineer. The result of this reengineering effort is the birth of the Telework International E-News. Our goal is to change our publishing schedule from quarterly to bi-monthly, post the articles on the Internet and provide free access to anyone with access to the world wide web.

The choice of publishing on the Internet is a simple one. We have been helping people and organizations rethink their traditional definition of work (where, when and how it is performed). To produce a newsletter on paper and distribute it via the mail seems like an old fashioned way of getting our message about the new work environment. The Internet is a logical extension of telework. The Internet allows us to interact with others from across the world without having to endure all the travel or the costs.

Putting Telework International on the Internet in electronic form will provide access to a broader range of individuals who can choose to browse the information on-line or to print the information out. Again, like telework, we will be able to reduce our production costs while increasing our overall effectiveness.

Moving to an electronic format will result in some changes in content and will provide us with some new opportunities for sharing information. The new format will include my editorials; regular updates on alternative officing, telecommunications technology, alternative work arrangements; updated links to other web sites containing telework information; and input from contributors around the world. Most importantly the newsletter will include input from you, our readers.

We at Telework International believe that input from readers is critical to all of us gaining the maximum value from this publication. By using the Internet it will be very easy for readers to provide feedback by providing quick and easy links to us via e-mail. This ease of electronic interaction will hopefully increase the number of articles from interested readers who want to share their telework experiences with others.

To make this switch to the Internet a success will require two important elements. First of all we will continue to provide you with the latest telework information, in an interesting and informative fashion. Secondly, you must be prepared to participate . Send us an article on how telework is being applied in your organization. Tell us your own personal impact story. Help others learn about the new way of working. Please do not feel that the opportunity to submit articles is limited to those who have a journalism background. We will accept any article and will work with you to tune the article for general consumption (reviewing any changes with you prior to publication).

I hope that you will find the new format to be worthwhile. Our goal is to reach more people and to more cost-effectively distribute information which will assist you in redefining the way your organization defines work. Our goals are the same as always. The key change will be in reaching more people and in sharing information amongst a group of readers who share a common interest in telework.

We will be updating Telework International every other month. Time sensitive information will be added as appropriate. If you want us to send you an e-mail when we update this newsletter than please e-mail us at HELP@KLR.COM.

Thank you for your continued support of our publication. I look forward to providing you with a more effective level of service through the Internet.
