Fabrice Koffy grew up in Ivory Coast. He has been living in Montréal for over 10 years now. Since 2004, he evolves amidst the Kalmunity Vibe Collective and has performed in a few important festivals, such as Québec City’s biggest literary festival, Québec en toutes lettres; Vue sur la relève; the Francofolies de Montréal; the Festival international de Jazz de Montréal; Brussels' international interdisciplinary art fiEstival maelstrÖm; as well as Montréal's Noches de poesia. Fabrice often teaches slam/poetry workshops. He also performs in the Ligue de slam québécoise (LISQ)'s events and is one of the co-founding members of Slam Jam Collectif. Since 2006, he coupled his voice to the musical notes of Guillaume Soucy's guitar. Together they form a new space that flirts with poetry and musical backdrop. Their first album - poesic – was released in summer 2009.
Fabrice's first publication, Village mental, is published in Fall 2010 by Montréal's Adage editions. Tantôt perdu, tantôt rebelle, parfois épris, d’autres fois libre, intimiste léger ou grave, Fabrice unveils his inner landscape. His texts take us on a journey through a range of emotions. Often spouting and sometimes sung, the words invite us to contemplate different themes and landscapes that range from the severe to the frivolous. From the personal to the universal, Fabrice often makes the leap. This poetry collection, Village mental, reveals this urban's poet thoughts and reflections as these poems were set in tranquil soil, refined and poised. Some of them, short, sprout up like ideas; while others, longer, describe, analyze and tell the stories like a «griot» of Spoken Word would. The book contains a Prologue by Ivy, the great founder and Slam master in Quebec, as well as an editorial by Myriam Saint-Denis Lysée, an online observer/reporter of the Slam scene in Québec.
Many literary critiques have compared Fabrice Koffy to Abd al Malik, both in content matter, in voice tone and in the strong rhythmic of his performances. A high honor that the poet does not take lightly as he humbly says thank you and continues on his personal journey… This urban contemporary poet has performed on stages in Canada, Europe and Africa. Each week that he is in Montréal, Fabrice comes home to the KVC family to improvise with the poets, mcs, griots, singers, musicians and vocalists. His solo project, poesic, comes in various forms: either in solo a capella, in duo or with a big band, as it tours across the province. We strongly invite you to come (re) discover Fabrice as he improvises and freestyles his poems, leaving much room to spontaneous Spoken Word creation and modulations. Fabrice's album is available on CD Baby, and his book is distributed in Canada's bookstores through AdageEdition.com
