Leacy O’Callaghan-O’Brien Seconded to the National Library of Canada

Leacy O’Callaghan-O’Brien

The National Library of Canada is pleased to welcome Leacy O’Callaghan-O’Brien on a one-year Interchange Canada agreement with the Canadian Library Association, where she is associate executive director. Ms. O’Brien is working with publishers on the New Books project (a service to promote new Canadian publications), the development of a clearinghouse of electronic publications in support of print-disabled Canadians, and a number of other innovative partnerships among readers, publishers, libraries and booksellers.

Well-known in the library community, Ms. O’Brien brings a wealth of experience with the publishing community to her position as strategic initiatives officer in the Acquisitions and Bibliographic Services branch of the National Library of Canada.

The National Library of Canada Has a New Children’s Librarian

Alphonsina Clemente

The National Library of Canada is pleased to welcome Alfonsina Clemente as its new children's librarian. Ms. Clemente was a children's librarian at the Ottawa Public Library where she had worked since 1990. Prior to that date, she was a children's reference librarian at the Dorval Library. She holds a masters degree in Library and Information Sciences from Université de Montréal and a bachelor of education degree from McGill University. Alfonsina Clemente joined the Library on Tuesday, August 7, 2001.

Appointed to CBEC

Bill Murphy

The National Library of Canada is pleased to announce that Bill Murphy is the new chief of the Canadian Book Exchange Centre effective July 12, 2001. Bill brings extensive experience to this position, most recently as manager of the National Library’s Interlibrary Loan Support Services, but also in the Client Services area of Information Technology Services and in the National Librarian’s Office.

Mr. Murphy’s background in both client service and systems has already been useful in furthering his goal of continuing to provide excellent service while increasing the use of technology at the Centre.
