Did You Know…that the National Library of Canada has acquired the remainder of the 33 biographical archives currently available in the K.G. Saur World Biographical Information System? Useful for both historical and biographical research, with coverage generally from the late 16th to the 20th century, these important microfiche series contain full-text reproductions of biographical excerpts for individuals from all walks of life, throughout the world. These entries have been reproduced from historical works, encyclopedias, almanacs, handbooks and other reference sources, many of which are no longer widely available in print. These series, which include the recently published Canadian Biographical Archive, will be added to the British Biographical Archive (series I and II), the American Biographical Archive (series I and II) and the Archives biographiques françaises (series I) previously acquired by the National Library. All of the biographical archives, together with the printed indexes published for many of the series, will be held in the Reference Collection of the National Library. The World Biographical Index cumulates the printed indexes. It contains 2.8 million short biographical entries from K.G. Saur’s archive series for individuals who lived in North and South America, Western and Central Europe, Australia, Africa, New Zealand and Oceania and is available free of charge on the Web at www.biblio.tu-bs.de/wbi_en/ For more information, contact Reference and Information Services |
