New Director General, Corporate Services Branch

On May 21, 2002, Paul Girard became the director general, Corporate Services Branch, National Library of Canada and National Archives of Canada.

Mr. Girard is a graduate of the University of Ottawa and was called to the Bar in 1978. After a period of private practice, he entered the Public Service in 1981. Mr. Girard has worked for a number of government departments, including the Public Service Commission, Revenue Canada, Veterans Affairs, and Indian and Northern Affairs. Most recently, he was Director General, Selection, at Citizenship and Immigration.

Paul Girard comes to the Library through the Accelerated Executive Development Program (AEXDP). The objectives of the AEXDP are to develop executives who demonstrate the potential to become Assistant Deputy Ministers through assignments in various departments.

Mr. Girard is responsible for overseeing the Corporate Services Branch, which provides advice and assistance to both the National Archives of Canada and the National Library of Canada. Services provided by the Branch are in the areas of human resources management, financial management, materiel management, records management, security services, accommodations, special programs as well as administration.
