Celebration ’92

Pirkko Shalden and Sirpa Kaukinen from Toronto presented Dr. Roch Carrier with a copy of the score for Concerto for Piano and String Orchestra (Celebration ’92) by recently deceased Canadian composer Srul Irving Glick. The piece was commissioned by the Celebration ’92 Committee to commemorate Finland’s 75th anniversary of Independence and Canada’s 125th anniversary of Confederation. The work was performed in Toronto, Ottawa and Sudbury by the Finlandia Sinfonietta and pianist Ralf Gothóni when they visited this country in 1992. "Deluxe" copies were presented at that time to Governor-General Ramon Hnatyshyn and Mauno Koivisto, President of Finland. The copy presented to the National Library had been specially bound for presentation.
