Health Canada's HIV/AIDS Policy, Coordination and Programs Division is pleased to announce that the following proposals have been approved for financial support under the National HIV/AIDS Community-based Social Marketing Fund.

AIDS Vancouver
" Assumptions - How do you know what you know?"

Vancouver, British Columbia

AIDS Vancouver will develop and implement a national community-based social marketing campaign to reinvigorate HIV/AIDS prevention for Canadian gay men and reduce the number of new HIV infections in this population.

The objective of the campaign is to reduce the incidence of unprotected anal intercourse with partners whose status is unknown by challenging gay men to reconsider their assumptions about the serostatus of their partners. Activities planned for the three-year campaign are based on a proven campaign from San Francisco that will be adapted to the Canadian cultural context with direction from a national advisory committee.

The campaign will involve at least six urban centres with targeted local campaigns. It will include print materials, public service announcements, a website, chat lines, and a public relations campaign. The campaign will be delivered through community press and local venues, such as bars, bathhouses, clubs, community centres and campuses.

Canadian Public Health Association
" Anytime. Anywhere. Anyone. HIV/AIDS Doesn't Discriminate: HIV/AIDS-related Stigma and Discrimination Social Marketing Campaign"

Ottawa, Ontario

The Canadian Public Health Association will develop, implement and evaluate a three-year national bilingual community-implemented social marketing campaign targeted to the general public. The awareness campaign is intended to reduce societal stigma and discrimination against people living with or at risk of HIV/AIDS.
