The Specific Populations HIV/AIDS Initiatives Fund

The Specific Populations HIV/AIDS Initiatives Fund (the Populations Fund) is an important component of PHAC grants and contributions under the Federal Initiative to Address HIV/AIDS in Canada. The Populations Fund supports national projects that prevent HIV infection, increase access to appropriate diagnosis, care, treatment and support and increase healthy behaviours amongst Canada's populations most affected by HIV/AIDS and most vulnerable to infection.

For How Much Funding Can a Proposal Apply?

The Populations Fund will support projects with varying funding requirements from a minimum of $100,000 per fiscal year to a maximum of $200,000 per fiscal year.

How Much Funding is Available?

The amount available for the Populations Fund is subject to the availability of funds, funds voted annually by parliamentary appropriations, and the conditions that may be attached to these funds. The approximate total amount available to the Populations Fund for this 2006 request for proposals is $2.0 Million over two fiscal years, subject to the conditions above.

Stage One Internal Review Process

The Stage One Proposal Application Internal Review Process is taking place between Wednesday, August 2, 2006 and Friday, August 11, 2006. Internal reviewers consist of nine (9) HIV/AIDS Policy, Coordination and Programs Division staff, Regional HIV/AIDS Public Health Agency of Canada staff as well as other governmental departments of HIV/AIDS as required.

The Policy, Coordination and Programs Division, PHAC, have received a total of fifty-nine (59) Stage Once Application forms from all over Canada.

Once the Stage One Internal Review Process is completed, acceptance and rejections letters will be sent out to organizations. The letters will be sent out the week of August 21, 2006.

Those who will be accepted to the Stage Two Process will be asked to submit a full proposal of their intended project under the Specific Populations Fund. The deadline for the Stage Two Proposals is tentatively end of September 2006 (exact dates will be provided with Letter of Acceptance).
