This report presents the notifiable diseases data for Canada which is tabulated on a monthly basis. Starting January 1, 2000, there were changes made to the list of diseases/conditions under national surveillance. New diseases have been added and some have been removed. The following are the new diseases that have been added:

  • Acute Flaccid Paralysis
  • Creutzfeld Jakob Disease (CJD)
  • Cryptosporidiosis
  • Cyclospora
  • Group B Streptococcal Disease in Neonates
  • Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome
  • Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)
  • Invasive Group A Streptococcal Disease
  • Invasive Pneumococcal Disease

The following diseases no longer warrant national surveillance (as of January 1, 2000):

  • Amoebiasis
  • Chancroid
  • Gonococcal Ophthalmia Neonatorum
  • Hepatitis Non-A, Non-B
  • Listeriosis
  • Meningitis, Other
  • Meningitis, Viral
  • Trichinosis
The category 'meningitis pneumococcal' has been replaced with 'invasive pneumococcal disease'. The category 'paratyphoid' has been removed: paratyphoid fever caused by Salmonella Paratyphi A, B and C will be reported under Salmonellosis.
