Hepatitis C Prevention, Support and Research Program

The Hepatitis C Prevention, Support and Research Program was created in 1999, to coordinate the federal public health response to hepatitis C . The program is part of the Community Acquired Infections Division of the Public Health Agency of Canada.

As part of the Hepatitis C Prevention, Support and Research Program, PHAC Atlantic assists community-based groups that provide support to those affected by hepatitis C through regionally coordinated activities and time-limited project funding. Community initiatives that improve population health, decrease health disparities, and reduce associated burden on the health system are eligible for funding by using a combination of the following strategies:

  • Contributing to the prevention of hepatitis C and related infections;
  • Supporting persons infected with, affected by, at risk of and/or vulnerable to hepatitis C and related infections;
  • Providing a stronger evidence base for policy and programming decisions;
  • Addressing the risks associated with certain behaviours;
  • Addressing issues of co-infection with related sexually-transmitted and blood-borne infections and tuberculosis, common risk factors, and population health approaches to disease prevention and control.

PHAC Atlantic periodically conducts solicitations for projects funded through this program.
