Minimizing the Risk of Arthritis

Depending on the form of arthritis, there are steps that can be taken to reduce the risk of arthritis. For osteoarthritis, these steps include maintaining an appropriate body weight and maintaining healthy joints and muscles through physical activity while protecting joints from injuries or overuse. A healthy body weight, and a healthy and balanced diet (i.e. reducing the intake of purine rich foods and drinks, such as red meat, certain type of seafood and alcohol) can reduce the risk of developing gout.
