Shaken Baby Syndrome (SBS)

Shaken Baby SyndreomeShaken Baby Syndrome (SBS) is a serious and clearly defined form of child abuse and refers to a collection of findings in infants and young children as a consequence of violent shaking. Health Canada, together with a diverse group of professional and advocacy associations, have developed the Joint Statement on Shaken Baby Syndrome as an important step to stimulate action across Canada to address this condition. It was developed to create a common understanding of the definition, cause, outcomes and consequence of SBS, and to encourage effective strategies to prevent SBS. This tool can be used by professionals in all sectors involved in SBS, as well as governments, organizations and communities.
