MEDIA ADVISORY

OTTAWA – The Honourable Tony Clement, Canada’s Minister of Health will attend the XVII International AIDS Conference (AIDS 2008) in México City from August 4-6, 2008.

Minister Clement will be available for media and photo opportunities at the following events. The Minister will be accompanied by Canada’s Chief Public Health Officer, Dr. David Butler-Jones.

All events will take place at AIDS 2008, which is located at:

Monday, August 4, 2008

17:45 – 18:30: Minister Clement will host a reception for international and domestic conference delegates who have received Government of Canada scholarships to attend AIDS 2008.  Media are invited to take photos at the reception.  Only cameras will be permitted.

19:00 – 20:00: Minister Clement will host a reception for all Canadian delegates at AIDS 2008. The Minister will deliver welcoming remarks and will be available to answer questions from media.

11:00 – 11:25: Minister Clement will participate in the World Health Organization launch of Priority Interventions: HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment and care in the health sector, a new guide to help countries scale up towards universal access to HIV prevention, treatment, care and support. The Minister will provide brief remarks and will be available to answer questions from media.

13:15 – 14:00: Minister Clement will tour the Canada Booth at the AIDS 2008 Conference Exhibition Space.  The Minister will be available to answer questions from media.
