Canada's Chief Public Health Officer recognizes Dr. Frank Plummer on being named to Order of Canada

It's with great pride that I today congratulate the Public Health Agency's own Dr. Frank Plummer, who has been named an Officer of the Order of Canada.

This is an award given only to those who have shown, through a lifetime of achievement, tremendous dedication to their community and service to their nation.

His contributions to the advancement of public health in Canada are matched by his numerous activities abroad that are effectively helping to build healthy communities in a healthier world. His body of work has led to innovative strategies for the prevention of infectious disease transmission -  work that is today being used around the world to, among other things, prevent many thousands of HIV infections.

A good friend and colleague, Frank is the very embodiment of the Order's motto - DESIDERANTES MELOREM PATRIAM - They desire a better country.  On behalf of the Public Health Agency of Canada, I congratulate him on this honour, and applaud him for his ongoing contributions to his country.
