Volume: 23S7 - November 1997 CONTROLLING ANTIMICROBIAL RESISTANCE CONCLUSIONThe consensus conference was successful in achieving agreement on the components of an action plan to limit the development and transmission of antimicrobial-resistant organisms in Canada (see Appendix V for a consolidation of the recommendations by issue). The main thrust of the action plan is to establish a multidisciplinary coordinating committee that will facilitate implementation of the recommendations developed at the conference. If this step is taken as promptly as possible, then the problem of antimicrobial resistance in Canada may be arrested before it reaches overwhelming proportions.
