Digital Canada: Toward a Common Information Infrastructure for Canada

This document was first presented at the CIDL Open Meeting held in Winnipeg on June 3, 2004. The Steering Committee continues its work to create a charter document from "Digital Canada." Comments from CIDL members are encouraged and welcome. You can send your comments to: cidl-icbn@lac-bac.gc.ca.

CIDL Open Meeting Winnipeg June 3, 2004
Framing a National Digitization Policy

The Canadian Initiative on Digital Libraries (CIDL) held an Open Meeting on June 3, 2004. The purpose of this meeting was to advance a national digitization policy for Canada in which memory organizations, at all levels and regions can play a unique role.

Participants also discussed the need to ensure a coherent approach to the provision of funding for the development of Canadian digital content.

The CIDL Steering Committee will summarize the results of the Forum and condense the discussion document, "Digital Canada: Toward a Common Information Infrastructure", into a charter document. In the fall 2004 this discussion document was released to the CIDL membership and selected memory organizations for feedback.
