To change my delivery method

Ariel is an innovative document transmission system which is currently offered as an option for both our urgent and regular services. For a premium price, the urgent service offers a guaranteed turnaround time.

With Ariel and common PC hardware, users can scan documents, transmit the resulting electronic images via Internet to Ariel workstations and print them on any compatible printer.

Since Ariel sends and receives the original scanned image file, there is no deterioration in image quality through transmission. The client receives a high quality document image. Ariel is also a very reliable method of delivery.

Ariel handles documents in three formats: 8 1/2 by 11 inches, 8 1/2 by 14 inches, and A4. Up to 100 documents sent, received or archived can be stored in each Ariel queue. The number of documents stored in an Ariel workstation depends on the disk space available.

Ariel works well with NRC-CISTI's IntelliDoc Document Delivery System because Ariel uses the same image file standards.

IntelliDoc sends NRC-CISTI documents to your Ariel workstation 24 hours a day. The client and bibliographic information is supplied with the image file. Twenty-eight attempts are made to establish the connection and execute the file transfer. If either the connection or the file transfer fails after 28 attempts, NRC-CISTI guarantees the delivery of your documents the best way possible.

Installing and using Ariel

For technical information on Ariel or to purchase Ariel, please go to the Ariel web site at http://corporate.infotrieve.com/ariel.

For trouble free operation NRC-CISTI also recommends the following practices:

  1. Your Ariel station should be rebooted every day.
  2. Ariel Send/Receive options should be set at 'Send then Delete' and 'Print then Delete' to ensure a steady traffic flow.
  3. The auto-printing option should be activated.

Choosing Ariel as your delivery method

If you want Ariel as your default delivery method, contact NRC-CISTI Client Services. Please provide NRC-CISTI with your Ariel workstation Internet address at the time of registration. The address provided must be either a static numeric IP (Internet Protocol) address or domain name.

It is possible for you to specify meaningful names to the numeric Internet address by using the Ariel option Address Book. (See Ariel User Guide.)

Note: If at any time you plan on changing any of this information, please notify NRC-CISTI Client Services in advance so that our client registration system may be modified accordingly. If you do not notify us about such changes, electronic deliveries will fail and documents will not be received properly.

Client Services will arrange for Ariel delivery testing before changes are released into production.

Ariel delivery Testing

Testing of Ariel delivery of documents from NRC-CISTI to clients is necessary before Ariel delivery can begin. Once the testing is successful, NRC-CISTI will change your default delivery method to Ariel. If you intend to use Ariel for delivery of urgent orders, we will also test to confirm that you are able to receive documents 24 hours a day as is required for 2 hour turn-around.
