Alberta Codes will be available on CD-ROM

An agreement between NRC and Alberta Labour will provide Alberta code users with a great new tool for searching and printing code requirements. This agreement will see the new editions of the Alberta Building and Fire Codes distributed as part of the next release of NRC's popular Codes on CD-ROM.

Under the terms of the agreement, the Alberta codes will be sold on the same CD-ROM and at the same price as the national codes on which they are based. Revenue generated from sales of the Alberta codes will go towards the model code development process.

"This agreement is a natural extension to other successful agreements between our two organizations whereby NRC publishes Alberta Building and Fire Codes on behalf of the Alberta government," stated Chris Tye, Administrator, Building and Fire Safety, Alberta Labour. NRC's CD-ROM product will provide quick and user-friendly access to code requirements, with full hyperlink and annotation capabilities. Mr. Tye went on to say, "We are pleased to benefit from the excellent work done by NRC in developing Codes on CD-ROM, which will give Alberta code users an electronic product that might not have been possible had we decided to proceed on our own."

The agreement with Alberta represents a first for NRC in terms of distributing provincial codes electronically. This could mark the beginning of a trend towards a CD-ROM that contains all national and provincial versions of the building and fire codes, thus providing one-stop shopping for Canadian code users.
