International Human Rights Law
The Department has long played a role in the area of international human rights law, from advising Canada in the negotiation of new international human rights instruments, to representing Canada in the litigation of international human rights cases. The Department also assists in the domestic implementation of international human rights treaties.
The rights and freedoms in Canada are fundamental to Canada’s System of Justice, and an important factor when Canada is considering whether to adhere to an international human rights treaty.
