Diversity and Employment Equity

Our Commitment to Diversity and Employment Equity

The Department believes that to be able to effectively serve the public, its work force needs to accurately reflect the diversity of the Canadian population. The Department actively recruits members of Employment Equity designated groups and encourages them to self-identify when they apply and begin their employment. There are four EE designated groups:

  • Visible minorities
  • Persons with disabilities
  • Aboriginal peoples
  • Women

An Inclusive Workplace

The Department of Justice is committed to ensuring that its internal policies, practices, and systems are free of barriers, emphasize the value of diversity, and promote full participation to ensure dignity, respect, and equal access for all employees. In addition to complying with the Treasury Board Secretariat’s policy on the Duty to Accommodate Persons with Disabilities, the Department has taken a further step and developed its own policy, The Policy on Accommodating Differences in the Workplace. This policy sets out the requirements and procedures for the accommodation of every employee and prospective employees based on the Canadian Human Rights Act and the Employment Equity Act.
