QUEBEC JUDICIAL APPOINTMENT ANNOUNCED
OTTAWA, March 4, 2011 - The Honourable Rob Nicholson, P.C., Q.C., M.P. for Niagara Falls, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointment:
The Honourable Stéphane Sansfaçon, a lawyer with Prévost Fortin D'Aoust, s.e.n.c.r.l. in Saint-Jérôme, is appointed a Judge of the Superior Court of Quebec for the District of Montréal, to replace Mr. Justice P. Béliveau, who elected to become a supernumerary judge as of February 28, 2011.
Mr. Justice Sansfaçon received a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) from Simon Fraser University in 1981 and a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from the Université de Montréal in 1985. He was admitted to the Bar of Quebec in 1985.
Mr. Justice Sansfaçon has been an associate and partner with Prévost Fortin D'Aoust since 1985. His main areas of practice were municipal and environmental law, administrative law litigation, tort liability and civil law.
Mr. Justice Sansfaçon was a member of the Canadian Bar Association and a lecturer for the Quebec Bar. He was an instructor to elected officials, including mayors and councillors, concerning their roles and responsibilities. He is the author of Le Règlement municipal, a two-volume publication, and numerous specialized articles on municipal law. He has been active in several community projects and charitable organizations.
This appointment is effective immediately.
