QUEBEC JUDICIAL APPOINTMENT ANNOUNCED
OTTAWA, June 24, 2011 – The Honourable Rob Nicholson, P.C., Q.C., M.P. for Niagara Falls, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointment:
The Honourable Charles Ouellet, of Cain, Lamarre, Casgrain, Wells, s.e.n.c.r.l. in Sherbrooke, is appointed Judge of the Superior Court of Quebec in the Districts of Saint-François and Bedford, to replace Mr. Justice P.-M. Bellavance, who elected to become a supernumerary judge as of May 10, 2010.
Mr. Justice Ouellet received a Bachelor of Civil Laws (LL.L.) from the Université de Sherbrooke in 1986. He was admitted to the Bar of Quebec in 1987.
Mr. Justice Ouellet has been a partner with Cain, Lamarre, Casgrain, Wells, s.e.n.c.r.l. since 2008. He was a founding partner and associate of Ouellet, Lapierre, avocats, s.e.n.c.r.l. from 2005 to 2008 and with the firm Monty, Coulombe s.e.n.c. in Sherbrooke from 1989 to 2005. He was a lawyer with Daigle, Delorme, Lebel (Sherbrooke office) from 1987 to 1989. His main areas of practice were civil litigation relating to contract law, insurance law and commercial law.
Mr. Justice Ouellet has been president of the Civil Law Bar Association Committee, Districts of Saint-François and Bedford, since 2007 and was president of Civil Procedure Reform from 2004 to 2007. He has been an instructor at the Formation professionelle du Barreau du Québec in Sherbrooke since 1995 and was an instructor at the Université de Sherbrooke from 1991 to 1997. He was Secretary of the Board for the Fondation du séminaire de Sherbrooke.
This appointment is effective immediately.
