MINISTER OF JUSTICE APPOINTS COMMISSIONER FOR FEDERAL JUDICIAL AFFAIRS
OTTAWA, June 29, 2011 – The Honourable Rob Nicholson, P.C. Q.C., M.P. for Niagara Falls, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the appointment of Mr. William Brooks to the position of Commissioner for Federal Judicial Affairs.
Mr. Brooks has more than thirty years of legal experience in both the private and public sectors. He received his Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) in 1978 from Osgoode Hall Law School and has been a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada since 1980.
The Office of the Commissioner for Federal Judicial Affairs (FJA) was created in 1978 by an Act of Parliament to safeguard the independence of the judiciary. Its mandate extends to promoting better administration of justice and proving support to the federal judiciary. In supporting federal judicial activities, the FJA works to protect the independence of the judiciary, achieve greater administrative efficiency in the judiciary using up-to-date technology, and support the judiciary and provide central administrative services to judges.
