ALBERTA JUDICIAL APPOINTMENT ANNOUNCED
OTTAWA, September 30, 2011 – The Honourable Rob Nicholson, P.C., Q.C., M.P. for Niagara Falls, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointment:
The Honourable Craig M. Jones, a lawyer with the firm Felesky Flynn LLP in Calgary, is appointed Judge of the Court of Queen's Bench of Alberta in Calgary, to replace Madam Justice C.A. Kent, who elected to become a supernumerary judge as of May 18, 2011.
Mr. Justice Jones received a Master of Arts and Economics from the University of Calgary in 1975 and a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from the University of Alberta in 1978. He was admitted to the Alberta Bar in 1979 and appointed Queen's Counsel in 2004.
Mr. Justice Jones has been a partner at Felesky Flynn LLP since 2001. He practised at Craig M. Jones Professional Corporation from 1994 to 2001 and was an associate and partner with Macleod Dixon LLP from 1978 to 1994. His main areas of practice were tax law, trusts, estates and wills.
Mr. Justice Jones was a member of several organizations including the Canadian Bar Association, the Calgary Bar Association, the Canadian Tax Foundation and a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel. He was an instructor and frequent speaker at various conferences as well as an author of numerous papers. He was a legal advisor for the Alberta Children's Foundation and the United Way of Calgary.
This appointment is effective immediately.
