SASKATCHEWAN JUDICIAL APPOINTMENT ANNOUNCED
OTTAWA, September 30, 2011 – The Honourable Rob Nicholson, P.C., Q.C., M.P. for Niagara Falls, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointment:
The Honourable Richard W. Danyliuk, a lawyer with McDougall Gauley LLP in Saskatoon, is appointed Judge of the Court of Queen’s Bench of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon, to replace Mr. Justice P. Foley, who elected to become a supernumerary judge as of September 1, 2011.
Mr. Justice Danyliuk received a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in 1980 and a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) in 1983 from the University of Saskatchewan. He was admitted to the Saskatchewan Bar in 1984 and appointed Queen’s Counsel in 2006.
Mr. Justice Danyliuk has been a partner with McDougall Gauley LLP since 2001. He was a partner with Thorstad Danyliuk McAdam from 1987 to 2000, which merged with Hnatyshyn Singer in 1995 to become Hnatyshyn Singer Thorstad, and an associate with Sherstobitoff Stromberg Prosser Young from 1984 to 1987. He appeared before all courts of Saskatchewan, trial courts in Alberta, the Federal Court, the Federal Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Canada. His main area of practice was general civil litigation, but included family and criminal law.
Mr. Justice Danyliuk was a Bencher with the Law Society of Saskatchewan from 2004 to 2009, President in 2008 and Chair of several committees. He was a sessional lecturer at the College of Law at the University of Saskatchewan from 1997 to 2002, a guest lecturer from 2007 to 2009 and an instructor of the Bar Admission Course from 2006 to 2009. He was a founding board member of Pro Bono Law Saskatchewan Inc. Mr. Justice Danyliuk was a member of the Saskatchewan Continuing Legal Education Society from 1988 to 1998 and a member of the Saskatchewan Trial Lawyers’ Association Law Reform Committee since 2002. He has been a frequent presenter, facilitator and speaker at numerous Law Society and Canadian Bar Association conferences and seminars. He is a youth soccer and rugby coach, volunteer and board member in several community organizations.
This appointment is effective immediately.
