QUEBEC JUDICIAL APPOINTMENT ANNOUNCED
OTTAWA, October 21, 2011 — The Honourable Rob Nicholson, P.C., Q.C., M.P. for Niagara Falls, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointment:
The Honourable David R. Collier, a lawyer with Norton Rose OR LLP in Montreal, is appointed a Judge of the Superior Court of Quebec (District of Montreal) to replace Mr. Justice W. Fraiberg, who elected to become a supernumerary judge as of September 10, 2011.
Mr. Justice Collier received a Bachelor of Arts in 1978, a Bachelor of Civil Laws in 1981, and a Bachelor of Laws in 1982 from McGill University. He received a postgraduate diploma in public law (D.S.U.) in 1983 from l’Université de Paris II. He was admitted to the Barreau du Québec in 1984.
Mr. Justice Collier had been with Norton Rose OR LLP (formerly Ogilvy Renault) since 1983. His main areas of practice were copyright, trademark and trade secrets litigation.
Mr. Justice Collier was vice-president of the Board of Directors of the Centre d’accès à l’information juridique from 2010 to 2011 and a member of the Board from 2008. He was Bâtonnier of the Bar of Montreal from 2005 to 2006 and a member of several committees of the Barreau du Québec. He is the author or co-author of several published papers.
This appointment is effective immediately.
