BRITISH COLUMBIA JUDICIAL APPOINTMENT ANNOUNCED
OTTAWA, December 2, 2011 – The Honourable Rob Nicholson, P.C., Q.C., M.P. for Niagara Falls, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointment:
The Honourable Anne W. MacKenzie, Associate Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of British Columbia in Vancouver, is appointed a judge of the Court of Appeal of British Columbia (Vancouver) to replace Mr. Justice P.D. Lowry, who elected to become a supernumerary judge as of January 1, 2011.
Madam Justice MacKenzie received a Bachelor of Arts in 1973 and a Bachelor of Laws in 1977 from the University of British Columbia. She was admitted to the Bar of British Columbia in 1978.
Madam Justice MacKenzie was Crown counsel for the Department of Justice in Vancouver until 1990. She was appointed to the Provincial Court of British Columbia in 1990, and was elevated to the Supreme Court of British Columbia in 1996. She was appointed Associate Chief Justice in 2010.
Madam Justice MacKenzie is a long-time member of the British Columbia Supreme Court’s Criminal Law Committee, and has participated regularly in the Court’s annual education programs, trial advocacy and Continuing Legal Education programs.
This appointment is effective December 31, 2011.
