QUEBEC JUDICIAL APPOINTMENT ANNOUNCED

OTTAWA, December 2, 2011 – The Honourable Rob Nicholson, P.C., Q.C., M.P. for Niagara Falls, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointment:

The Honourable Carole Therrien, a lawyer with the Centre communautaire juridique Laurentides, Lanaudière in Saint-Jérôme, is appointed a puisne judge of the Superior Court of Québec (District of Montréal), to replace Mr. Justice J.-P. Sénécal, who elected to become a supernumerary judge as of October 27, 2011.

Madam Justice Therrien received a Bachelor of Civil Laws from l’Université du Québec à Montréal in 1991, and was admitted to the Barreau du Québec in 1993.

Madam Justice Therrien had been a lawyer with Centre communautaire juridique Laurentides, Lanaudière since 2008 where she supervised 31 lawyers practising criminal law, family law, administrative law, youth and civil law. Prior to that, she was in private practice with Therrien Roy and Associates from 1993 to 2002.

Madam Justice Therrien was a member of the Quebec Bar, Laurentides-Lanaudière section, from 1996 to 2002. She was a member of the Commission des services juridiques and an instructor at l’Université du Québec from 2000 to 2002. In 2001, she was an analyst for the Radio-Canada program “La facture.”

This appointment is effective immediately.
